Englave’s landing page went live two months ago, on the spooky night of Halloween.  It was a scary moment indeed.  When one of my team members asked me “So, are we going live now, are you 100% sure?”, I thought “Wow, this is it, a scary beginning for a lifetime project.”.   Now that we are in the first week of January 2014, I think the timing is perfect for a reflection, a review of what we have achieved over the course of two months.

Within a short period of time, we are proud to have helped select emerging designers get more attention from the industry by featuring their work on our blog: Beyond the Lens.  Thanks to you dear readers, these designers receive recognitions not only limited to their local community, but at an international level as well.

At this time last year, my relationship with my team was all about “smile, hi and bye”.  Now, the smile has turned into big laughs and the “hi and bye” has become various sessions of dine-and-drink and exploration of new places for editorial photoshoots.  Two months ago, I only had two designer acquaintances in Vancouver.  Now I have made friends with emerging fashion designers worldwide that reside in Paris, Vienna, Mexico City, Barcelona, Copenhagen, London, New York, Lviv and Jakarta.  And I’m talking about the kind of relationship that doesn’t just end after the designer signs up with Englave or after the editorial shoot is completed, but the one that develops further into conversation about food, travel, business, and possibilities for future collaborations.

2014 will be an exciting year for us.  We have a queue of emerging brands waiting to be featured on Beyond the Lens.  We will be occupied with a project that will combine fashion and raising awareness towards a rare disease.  We aim to launch our beta version in the next few months and to develop more relationships not only with designers, but also buyers, editors, stylists, makeup artists, bloggers and photographers worldwide.  We want to create a bigger, yet close-knit community, and together we work to shape the fashion industry into one where new players can thrive.

Thank you so much for your support and wishing you a successful 2014!
