Putting together various emerging designers in one editorial shoot has been Englave’s goal from the start.  After all, we aim to showcase international emerging brands to buyers and trendsetters worldwide.  Here is our debut: featuring Volver Ready-to-Wear from New York, Väska handbags from Barcelona and Roman Sobetskyy shoes from Lviv, Ukraine.  Even though they come from diverse backgrounds and are inspired by different elements, they share similar appeal: edgy, one dream: to be recognized at an international level, and one ambition: to fulfil their crazy design ideas!

Volver, New York – USA

It means “to give back” in Spanish, a word that reflects heavily in the brand started by two fashion veterans, Nicole Ryder and Natalia Konovalova.  They love their hometown so much that through their brand, they aim to give back and support not only American-made goods, but also the garment district in NYC.  Perhaps you think that it sounds cliché, but their collection says it all.  Constantly inspired by the city that always offers something new yet remains classic, Volver’s bold look is perfectly balanced with classic shapes.   Their unique look comes from the diverse selection of beautiful soft leather and signature hardware that you see throughout the collection.  Together, they create a look that is timeless, effortless yet edgy.  When asked why they only work with leather, Nicole answered, “The possibilities are endless when it comes to leather.  No matter what direction you take you always have a polished and cool look.”  A New York state of mind indeed!

Väska, Barcelona – Spain

Ann-Sofi Vaska | englave.com

Ann-Sofi Storbacka has always been in love with Nordic simplicity and Mediterranean chic; two elements that she combines together for her handbags brand: Väska. Her collection is handcrafted using vegetable-tanned leather carefully selected from the best local tanneries in Spain.  It doesn’t stop at the material though, unique and high quality craftsmanship is what Väska is all about.  To Ann-Sofi, designing her bag collection is like making an Origami – each bag only consists of a single piece of leather converted into a unique and functional structure without any stitching.  And the results, as in the photos above, are innovative and original.

Recently selected from among more than 14,000 talented designers worldwide for the “The Future of Fashion” Program to exhibit her collection at PREMIERE CLASSE Paris, Ann-Sofi’s talent must not be taken lightly.  Perhaps soon, you will see her collaboration work with Loewe or Ivana Helsinki, the two brands that she admires the most for their unique design and beautiful craftsmanship.

Roman Sobetskyy, Lviv – Ukraine

Girls Interrupted 12 | englave.comLast but not least, Roman Sobetskky, the designer who also loves to experiment with interesting designs of footwear.  His creative imagination pushes him to create shapes that often distort an original idea into something beyond recognition.  That was exactly my thought when I first saw his shoes!  His idea to add interior decorative components into his shoes is brilliant!  When do you ever see nails on footwear?  Apparently, that is one of his secrets when adding unique elements into his creations: to play with the emotion of those who see or wear his shoes.  “What is the other secret?”, I asked him.  “Well, I handcraft every single piece of my design.” Roman said.

You can contact Roman Sobetskyy directly if you wish to purchase his shoes collection.
